A cyclist has been taken to hospital after a collision with a lorry in Billingham this morning.
The collision occured on the A1185 Seal Sands Road involving a cyclist and a lorry at around 7.30am.
The 50-year-old man was airlifted to Middlesbrough’s James Cook Hospital after the collision with serious head and chest injuries around 7.45am.
A Great North Air Ambulance spokeswoman said: “he GNAAS crew, who responded in their rapid response car, anaesthetised the man at the scene before he was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough by North East Ambulance Service. The GNAAS doctor accompanied the patient on route. The man was in a serious but stable condition upon arrival at hospital.”
The A1185 was closed between Marsh House Avenue and Seal Sands A178 for more than three hours but has now reopened.Officers are appealing for witnesses following the incident.
