A man was rescued from the sea off Hartlepool last night.
Hartlepool RNLI volunteer crew was called out by Humber Coastguard at 10.30pm by Humber Coastguard to a report of a person in the water near the Heugh Breakwater at the Headland.
The inshore lifeboat launched at 10.40pm but was stood down from the incident shortly afterwards as the casualty had been recovered from the scene by police and Hartlepool Coastguard.
The lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road boathouse at 10.46pm.
A Coastguard spokeswoman confirmed the service has been called out by Cleveland Police and that the man had been escorted safly into the care of the police.
