Sleeping Beauties may have missed it, but one of the world's biggest cruise liners docked in the region early this morning.
Disney Magic is looming large at Port of Tyne after making its way down the river from 5.30am.
The 294-metre floating fantasy land can carry around 2,700 passengers over its 11 public decks and has a crew of around 950.
It brings to life some of the most popular Disney characters with a life-like set-up of Andy’s Room from Toy Story, a Mickey Mouse club and dining rooms where the walls come to life, as well as live Disney shows.
The day-long visit is part of Disney Cruise Lines’ 12-night British Isles cruise which began in Dover. The ship will depart tonight at around 5.45pm.
Although the ship is not open for visitors it will be possible to catch a glimpse of the Disney Magic at popular viewing points on the river.
Nolan Gray, Port of Tyne business development director, said: “The Port of Tyne has worked extremely hard to attract visiting cruise lines to our award-winning International Passenger Terminal in North Shields.
“We are delighted to be one of only two ports in England that Disney Cruise Lines have chosen to include in their itinerary.
During their time in Port the cruise passengers on Disney Magic will explore the UNESCO world heritage sites of Durham Cathedral and Castle, Hadrian’s Roman Wall, Alnwick Castle and Garden and other attractions across the region.
After cruising the British Isles, the ship will return to Port of Tyne for another stop off on Sunday, June 19.
