CIVIC dignitaries had a ball at a mayor’s glittering annual fundraiser.
The Mayor of Stockton’s annual ball at the Wynyard Rooms raised £9,580, almost twice as much as last year.
A painting donated by the artist Mackenzie Thorpe raised £1,200 in a charity auction.
It was in addition to £5,350 raised at the Mayor’s charity golf day last July.
The event at the venue at Wynyard Business Park was hosted by Councillor Colin Leckonby and his mayoress wife, Marjorie.
Proceeds from the night will be shared between the Stockton Cornerhouse Youth Project and the Dave Rayner Cycling Fund.
Around 250 guests from neighbouring authorities attended.
Coun Leckonby said: “It was a fantastic event, made even more memorable by the amount donated by our generous guests.”
Jeff Hind, general manager of the Wynyard Rooms, said: “It’s one of the highlights of our calendar and we are delighted that the evening was such a success, not just in the fact that everyone enjoyed themselves but because it raised such a lot of money for worthy causes.”
