France Football suggest that the 18-year-old is being watched by Newcastle United, RB Leipzig and Rennes after impressing in Boro's academy sides.

Newcastle were linked with a move for the youngster earlier this summer and are now thought to have been joined in their pursuit of the Middlesbrough man.

Brahimi, an attacking midfielder who usually plays as a left winger, was handed a first team debut by Tony Pulis earlier this season as he came off the bench in the Carabao Cup win over Rochdale.

He has not made a first team appearance since, but is thought to be on the radar of the European trio as his long-term future on Teesside remains uncertain.

The teenager's current deal at the Riverside Stadium expires in the summer of 2019 and, while Boro are thought to be keen on offering him professional terms, Brahimi may decide to look elsewhere.

But speaking to Foot Mercato earlier this season, he seemed to suggest his immediate focus was on Middlesbrough.

"I still have a year on my contract so my goal is to have a big season and sign a professional contract with Boro," he admitted.

"I want to be with the pros as quickly as possible, this is a decisive year for me.

"To play for the pros at 18, that does not happen to everyone. The coach put trust in me, which gives me great pride.

"I made a lot of sacrifices to get there. If I work hard and well, I hope I can play in the Premier League some day. My dream is to win the Champions League and a World Cup."

Brahimi joined Middlesbrough last summer after a spell at Portuguese side Leixos and has also played for French side Racing 92.
