Middlesbrough close in on deal for £11million-rated Dutch ace

Middlesbrough are understood to be closing in on a deal for £11million-rated Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon.

The 25-year-old Atalanta midfielder is set to leave Serie A for a stint in the Premier League, with a four-year contract on the table at the Riverside outfit.

The defensive midfielder made 36 appearances last season, scoring once and providing three assists as well as picking up 10 bookings and a red card.

His form has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, while Napoli were also keen on securing his services.

But it appears Boro have won the race to land his signature, with the young Dutch ace expected on Teesside within the next 48-hours to undergo a medical.

De Roon, who represented Holland at Under-19 level, joined Atalanta from Heerenveen four years ago and he is set to double his wages at Boro ahead of their return to the Premier League.
