Tony Pulis is reshaping his Boro squad ahead of the new Championship campaign following last season's play-off semi-final defeat heartache to Aston Villa.

And the Boro boss, who is also set to add Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair to his squad, has targeted 28-year-old Flint to bolster his defensive ranks ahead of the promotion push.

BristolLive report Boro have agreed a deal for the centre-back, believed to be upwards of £5million and he is due on Teesside for a medical.

Flint made a total of 46 appearances for Bristol last season and the 6ft 6ins defender was instrumental in helping City reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals and put in a man-of-the-match performance against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

He is also a threat in the opposition penalty area, scoring nine goals last season.

In March, Flint signed a new long-term deal until 2021 but Boro have made their move and look to land the defender for a fee in excess of £5million.

City are understood to have been reluctant to lose Flint this summer but they have always stated that every player has a price and Boro have matched the asking price.

Flint's imminent arrival, pending a successful medical and personal terms being agreed, could speed up Ben Gibson's departure from the Riverside with several Premier League clubs monitoring the Boro centre back.

Boro's first team squad flies out to Austria on Wednesday for a 10-day training camp.
