Luke George admits he will have to manage his injury, if he's to play a significant part in Hartlepool United's relegation run in.

Pools have just 14 games to go in their National League season, and they sit just four points above the bottom four.

For George, who has missed much of the season with a whole host of problems linked to an old injury, he just wants to be involved in as much of what is left of a so far forgettable season.

To do that, though, he must manage his body, with the help of Pools’ medical staff.

The combative midfielder, who covered for suspended Carl Magnay on the right of the back four in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Woking, said: “Personally, I only made my fifth start.

“I have 14 games to go and I want to make sure I am involved in every game that I can.

“I will have to manage it [the injury] with the physio and medical staff.

“We have been doing that all season to be fair.”

Not only was Saturday’s win against the Surrey outfit a welcome boost for the side, it was also special for George, who made his first start since November 18, getting 85 minutes under his belt.

“It was hard to put into words really,” he said.

“There is nothing like the buzz of three points.

“We have spoken about all of the goings on away from football but whatever is happening off the field, nothing compares to the feeling of getting a win.

“It never changes, no matter the circumstances.”

George knows that the weekend victory is only the start of things to come - Pools have to use it as a platform, not feel like they’ve turned the corner already.

He said: “I don’t want to beat around the bush. There have been rumours around the club but the facts are that we were close to the drop. So for that reason three points was crucial.

“The win has to be a platform. We need to build on that against Halifax.”
