Mixed reaction to Donald Trump's US election win

Almost two thirds of people in Hartlepool say they are worried for the future of the UK as Donald Trump won the US presidency.

The Mail asked reader the question: “Are you worried about what Trump’s presidency could mean for the UK?”

It saw 60% of people saying they are worried, with 40% not concerned.

Donald Trump has promised to revive the American dream after pulling off an astonishing victory in the race for the White House.

In the aftermath of a bitter campaign, the controversial tycoon sought to unite the country behind his leadership, saying he would “bind the wounds” of the deeply divided nation.

The billionaire businessman will become the 45th president of the United States after voters gambled on his pledge to “Make America Great Again”.

Speaking at a victory party in New York after rival Hillary Clinton conceded defeat, Mr Trump urged Americans to put the election behind them.

There was also a mixed reaction as readers had their say on the Mail’s Facebook page.

Paul Nedley wrote: “A terrible day for the whole world. Watch the financial markets collapse around his ankles, watch the ecology suffer, watch the increase in homophobia and anti immigrants.”
