A Peterlee Post Office's modernisation is set to be rubber stamped this month.
A 'local' service will be introduced at York Road Post Office, from 1pm on Thursday, June 22.
The service will be provided at a low-screened, open plan style service point, integrated into the retail counter.
Customers will be able to access a range of Post Office and mails services.
They include Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.
Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, and sending funds abroad using Moneygram, while customers can pay bill, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
The service will be available during the store's open hours, which are 9am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 5.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9am to 1pm on Wednesday and Saturday.
The branch will close temporarily at 5.30pm on Thursday, June 15 while the refurbishment takes place, with customers advised to use the Post Offices on Yoden Way, Peterlee, and Low Row, Peterlee, during the closure.
Post Office area manager Fiona Shanahan said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.
"This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
