FRIGHTENING monsters will be the theme for this year’s firework display which is being held at the weekend.

Hartlepool’s annual free fireworks and music spectacular takes place on Saturday at Seaton Carew seafront and organisers promise it will be fun for all the family.

It will be based on the theme of movie monsters and will include music from the films Jurassic Park, Jaws, King Kong and Monsters Inc.

The event starts at 4pm with stalls near the paddling pool and a children’s funfair, with live music near the Clock Tower organised by youth charity ‘Red Dreams’.

The fireworks start at 6.30pm, with the vice chairman of Hartlepool Borough Council, Coun Kevin Cranney leading the countdown.

Katie Hammond, the council’s cultural events officer, said: “The music for this year’s show will pay tribute to some of the famous movie monsters, including from the films Jurassic Park, Jaws, King Kong and Monsters Inc.”

She added: “Because of the popularity of the event, we would strongly urge people to get to the park and ride service early. We would also remind people not to try setting off their own fireworks on the beach - it’s not safe to do so. For that reason there will be no public access to the beach south of the Station Lane slipway during the event.”

To reduce traffic congestion on the journey to Seaton Carew, a park and ride bus service will operate from the bus stop in front of Hartlepool’s Maritine Experience in Marina Way between 5pm and 6.15pm, with buses returning between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Return fares will be £1 for adults, 50p for children or £2.50 for a family ticket.

Seaton Carew will be closed to traffic from the junction with Elizabeth Way to the junction with Station Lane from 6.15pm to 7pm.

Seaton coach park will not be open to vehicles all day.
