The Tyne and Wear Metro has announced that it will be running additional services for Little Mix fans travelling to Gateshead International Stadium for their concert on Thursday.

Extra Metro trains are scheduled to help concert goers as they make their way to and from Gateshead to see the one of the world’s biggest girl bands, which features South Shields singers Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards alongside Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson.

The additional services will operate before and after the former X Factor winner’s performance.

Fans travelling to see Little Mix should use Gateshead Stadium Metro station, which is a 10 minute walk from the venue.

Park and Ride with Metro is also available at Callerton Parkway, Kingston Park, Four Lane Ends, Northumberland Park and Heworth.

Parking starts from £1 a day.

Passengers are advised to leave plenty of time as trains and stations are expected to be busy before and after the concert.

Listen out for station announcements and guidance as staff get customers onto trains safely and as quickly as possible.

Little Mix wristbands are now available for fans to purchase in advance to avoid the queuing at ticket machines on the day of the concert.

They will be valid on Metro in all zones, the Shields Ferry and Northern trains between Newcastle and Sunderland and are available to purchase online until Sunday by clicking here.

Metro services director, Chris Carson, said: “It is exciting that Gateshead will be welcoming Little Mix next week as part of the platinum selling group’s nationwide Summer Hits stadium tour and we’re proud to play a part in their return to the region by running extra Metro trains.

“I would advise concert goers to leave plenty of time for their journey as trains will be very busy and to purchase a Little Mix wristband in advance, which is valid for the whole day, to avoid queuing at ticket machines after the concerts.

“We will have lots of staff on hand at Gateshead Stadium who will be able to provide advice and assistance to ensure fans get home as quickly and safely as possible after the concert.

"I hope the extra and extended Metro services will help make life easier for our passengers and allow them to make the most of their experience seeing Little Mix.”

Passengers travelling to Gateshead Stadium can also buy a Day Ticket from a station ticket machine for just £3 to £5.10, depending on which station they board, or £1.30 for children 16 and under.

The tickets can be used all day allowing passengers to avoid queuing at a Metro ticket machine after the concert.

Children with an Under 16 Pop card can buy a Child All-day ticket from a Metro station ticket machine on the day for £1.10.
