MORE than 100 reports of honour attacks were recorded in the Cleveland Police area last year.
Cleveland Police recorded 153 so-called honour attacks, which is the sixth highest number of reported incidents among 39 of 52 police forces nationwide, according to figures from the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (Ikwro).
The figures are among 2,823 incidents of “honour-based” violence reported to police in Britain last year.
A Home Office spokesman added: “We are determined to end honour violence and recognise the need for greater consistency on the ground to stop this indefensible practice.
“Our action plan to end violence against women and girls sets out our approach to raise awareness, enhance training for police and prosecutors and better support victims.”
