A MUM who helped raise awareness of an often misunderstood condition through fundraising is planning another charity event later this year.
Donna Emmerson, 31, from Hartlepool, raised hundreds of pounds to help sufferers of Tourette’s when she held a ladies’ charity evening at the Belle Vue Social Club in town in February.
But the Hartlepool resident wants to do even more, and has announced plans to organise another charity night – this time, though, it will be held in Sunderland.
The event will be held on Saturday, September 21, and some details have still to be confirmed, said Donna.
The determined fundraiser said: “We have singers who suffer with Tourette’s coming up from London and Devon.”
She said the event would also feature a drag act and a boylesque performance, which is a male version of burlesque.
Donna said the reason behind her fundraising campaign was because a friend on Wearside had Tourette’s, and events like this would help to make the condition better understood, as it is not just about swearing.
Symptoms of Tourette Syndrome (TS) also include tics, repeated movements and sounds.
