A HOUSING chief has been elected to the board of an influential organisation.

Vela Group chief executive Cath Purdy has been elected to the national board of the National Housing Federation (NHF).

Cath, who has worked in the housing sector for two decades, has chaired the NHF’s North East regional committee since 2008 and will undertake her new role in addition to heading up one of the region’s leading housing providers.

Cath became group chief executive of Vela, which encompasses Housing Hartlepool and Stockton-based Tristar Homes, on its formation in December 2010, having previously been the chief executive of Housing Hartlepool since 2004.

Last year her work within the social housing sector was honoured when she was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to local government.

Cath Purdy said: “It is an honour to be elected by my peers to the board of the housing sector’s trade body, whose strong voice helps influence the future of housing in the country.

“I am looking forward to playing a bigger part in helping influence affordable housing policies for the benefit of housing associations and their residents across the region and beyond.”
