A wildlife centre is getting ready to become the place to be for stargazers.

The RSPB Salthome reserve and discovery park near Hartlepool will host a visit by astronomy expert John McCue, who will be running a four-week course for would-be astronomers to get the best out of their stargazing.

Saltholme’s visitor experience officer Lydia Tague said: “Our astronomy evenings are always really popular, so this year we decided that we would give people the opportunity to learn a bit more.”

The whole project is called Exploring the Universe: an Introduction to Astronomy.

It will begin on Saturday, January 9 with a session called The Planets before continuing for the next three consecutive Saturdays with Stars and Constellations, Galaxies and The Universe as a Whole.

Spaces are limited, so booking in advance is essential. Those interested should call the reception team at Saltholme on (01642) 546625.
