A new contract and a major site expansion for Hartlepool company

Award-winning firm JDR Cables is undergoing a major expansion at its Hartlepool site - and it has won a new order as well.

The firm which won the Hartlepool Business of the Year title just two weeks ago is now celebrating even more good news.

The Greenland Road-based business has won a deal to engineer, design and make 12 steel tubes for the Vashishta & S1 oil and gas fields, around 18 miles off the east coast of India.

JDR's Hartlepool plant has won the deal to to make tubes and associated hardware for the fields which are between 700 and 2,100 feet deep.

The contract has been awarded by GE Oil & Gas, on behalf of operator ONGC, for the Vashishta & S1 project.

JDR’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hartlepool is also undergoing a major site expansion. The firm has commissioned a world-leading helical assembly machine to be built there, as well as huge carousels.

Already this year, JDR has announced a series of big contract wins for the Hartlepool site.

Back in February, bosses revealed two new contracts for the Middle East market in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

They said the deals had helped to secure work for the plant where around 200 people work.

JDR has expanded from 97,000 sq ft of warehouse space in 2008, to more than 280,000 sq ft now. The latest investment has seen JDR taking up the option of an extra third building at its site on Hartlepool’s dockland.

It covers 80,000 sq ft and will be used for a machine to make cables and umbilicals to the highest specifications in steel and thermoplastic.

Late last year, the Hartlepool Mail exclusively revealed JDR’s five-year strategy which includes expanding its capacity for renewable power cables and adding a dedicated new facility for subsea production umbilicals.
