A NEW headteacher is set to take the helm at a secondary school.

Linda Rodham has been appointed as the new headteacher at Wellfield Community School, in Wingate.

She will take up the role in January next year to replace outgoing headteacher Jennifer Elliott.

Ms Rodham is currently acting headteacher at Moorside Community Technology College, in Consett.

Education bosses at Durham County Council say she has extensive leadership experience, having previously been a deputy headteacher for five years and has welcomed two consecutive local authority reports rating the school as outstanding.

She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the new headteacher of Wellfield. I am looking forward to the challenge of leading and taking the school forward while working with the governors to ensure that I do my very best to serve the school’s community.

“My main aim will be to raise the aspirations of all children and young people in the area.”

The mother-of-three has inspired two of her daughters to follow in her footsteps as one is a primary school teacher and the other teaching children of secondary school age. Her son is studying medicine.

Ms Rodham, a qualified technology and ICT teacher, has worked across the North-East, starting in South Tyneside before working in Newcastle and coming to Durham in 2002.

She loves to watch rugby and is passionate about history, especially local history.
