New Pools boss: We can go far if everyone is on the same page

That was the message from the new Pools manager as he looks to revive the fortunes of a club relegated to the National League.

The 39-year-old says the there could be no stopping the club achieving whatever they wanted to if players, staff and fans were all “like-minded”.

“First and foremost, I expect a lot from people,” said Harrison.

“Everyone here is representing Hartlepool United Football Club and this is the most important place in the world at that time.

“Whether the lads are walking into training, walking onto the pitch or speaking to the media, they are representing Hartlepool.

“Everyone here has to be like-minded.

“If you have a like-minded group of people, it’s amazing how much you can achieve with those ideals and principles.

“All the rest follows around it.

“Your five per cent here, two per cent there, match analysis, sports science, pressing, passing, attacking.....

“All these things in modern-day football are important, but the base is everyone being like-minded.

“From day one, that’s all I ask of them.

“You will be amazed how far that can take you – you get the snowball effect when everyone buys into it.

“Together we can move forward quickly.”

Moving forward together will be vital to Pools following their painful and costly fall from the Football League.

For all predecessor Dave Jones boasted an impressive CV, the squad did not appear keen to move with him, while there were rumours that he rubbed up members of staff the wrong way.

“What went on last season isn’t for me to comment on, but getting the spirit right is key,” added Harrison..

“You need like-minded people together – do that and, in any sport, business, life, whatever, then you have a great chance.

“First up, we need to get everyone together who wants to be here and move in the right direction.

“I want players who want to be here and represent the club and work hard every day for Hartlepool.”

Harrison has arrived at the Northern Gas & Power Stadium with a staggering record at The New Saints in Wales.

The former Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace defender won six successive Welsh Premier League titles at TNS, as well as managing the Oswestry outfit in the Champions League.

But, for all the glory, the Gateshead-born boss says he can’t wait to get to work with the squad.

“The first day of pre-season is something I’m looking forward to,” he said.
