Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez wants to keep Sissoko at St James's Park, despite the midfielder publicly admitting that he wants to leave the club after relegation to the Championship.

Sissoko - who made a late substitute appearance for France in their 2-1 win over Romania last week - was asked about his future at a press conference today.

"I am fully focused on Euro 2016 and Les Bleus. I will deal with my club situation after that," he said.

Sissoko could be one of several players leaving Tyneside after the drop, with fellow midfielder Georginho Wijnaldum linked with a pair of Serie A clubs today.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Napoli and Roma are both battling to land Wijnaldum, who has also been the subject of speculation over a move to Everton.
