Newcastle Utd news: Daryl Janmaat leaving? Loan move for striker, ex-boss back in dug-out

Newcastle defender Daryl Janmaat wants to put himself in the shop window in case the Magpies are relegated, says Holland boss Danny Blind.

Janmaat withdrew from the Dutch squad earlier this week after picking up an injury in the Tyne-Wear derby draw with Sunderland.

But Blind insists Janmaat was distraught to pull out as he was keen to demonstrate his ability to potential suitors, in case Newcastle suffer the drop.

"He wanted to be with us because he is anxious to be in the spotlight of another club, in case Newcastle United are actually relegated," said Blind.

Rookie Newcastle striker Ivan Toney could also be on the move, although the 20-year-old is in line to depart on loan before today's 5pm emergency loan deadline.

Barnsley have been strongly linked with taking Toney for a second spell after netting two goals in eight appearances before he was recalled by Newcastle in January.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder is back in football after taking up a new role at League Two Stevenage.

Roeder has been appointed managerial advisor at Stevenage to help caretaker boss Darren Sarll.
