North East delivery offices to open on Sundays during December

More than 100 additional Royal Mail offices across the country will extend hours to help with the Christmas post.

A total of 225 delivery offices will stay open on Sundays throughout December to offer further services to the public.

Seventeen of these will be in the North East. There are an additional 125 overall staying open.

Rob Jenson, Royal Mail’s North Operations Director said: “Opening some of our busiest delivery offices on Sundays all year round has been a great success.

"In these offices, Sundays is one of the most popular days for parcel collection by our customers. We are delighted to open even more offices to help everyone in the weeks leading up to Christmas Day."

The North East offices opening on Sundays, along with their times, are:

Darlington DO: 12pm until 4pm.

Forest Hall DO: 12pm until 4pm

Gosforth DO: 12pm until 4pm

Hartlepool DO: 12pm until 4pm

Heaton DO: 12pm until 4pm

Newcastle Upon Tyne City DO: 12pm until 4pm

Newcastle West DO: 12pm until 4pm

North Tyneside DO: 12pm until 4pm

South Shields DO: 12pm until 4pm

Spennymoor DO: 12pm until 4pm

Stockton On Tees DO: 12pm until 4pm

Sunderland DO: 12pm until 4pm

Wear Valley DO: 12pm until 4pm

Jarrow DO: 12pm until 4pm

Middlesbrough DO: 12pm until 4pm

Newton Aycliffe DO: 12pm until 4pm

South Bank Post Office: 12pm until 4pm

Extended opening hours will also be in force from Mondays to Saturdays this Christmas in around 1,200 delivery offices across the UK. These vary from office to office, so visit your local branch for more information.

Many offices are also staying open until 5pm on Christmas Eve.
