Not too late to sign up for run

ORGANISERS of this weekend’s Miles for Men cancer charity event have thanked those who have already signed up and urged others to do the same.

The fun run in aid of Cancer Research UK returns to Hartlepool on Sunday and organisers cannot wait for it to arrive with people from around the country already helping to raise vital funds.

There has been a change to the format this year as the run will start and finish at The Domes in Tees Road, Seaton Carew, but will once again be a 5k race.

Organisers have stressed that people can still register on the day as well as in the run-up to the fundraising event.

The event has enjoyed a meteoric rise since it was first held in 2012 after founder Michael Day suggested a sponsored run for men and more than £40,000 was raised from the first event.

The second in Hartlepool was just as successful but by last year, the Miles for Men phenomenon had grown with races also being held in Liverpool and Newcastle last year.

This year will also see a race in Sunderland on Sunday, August 3.

Mark Sickling, from the Miles For Men team, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you from the Miles for Men team for those people that have already registered for the event.

“People interested in taking part can also register on the day.”

Michael added: “We are looking forward to seeing as many people as possible take part in the Miles for Men event in Hartlepool

“It would be great to see lots of new faces as well as those who regularly support the charity taking part.”

Michael wanted to do something in memory of his late father, Michael Day Snr, who lost his battle with throat cancer in 2007, aged 67 and since its launch, the charity has now raised £84,500.

There is a 2,000 limit on runners at Hartlepool this year, with the event starting at 1pm.
