THE number of child neglect cases recorded by a children’s charity which then have to be passed on to the authorities has increased by more than a quarter in the North-East.
The NSPCC say the number of reports to its service that needs to be passed onto police or children’s services has risen by 26.7 per cent from April last year to March this year.
Calls to its helpline service have also doubled over the past two years to reach record levels.
In the last year last year, trained NSPCC counsellors working on the 24-hour freephone service, dealt with over 507 contacts from the North-East, and 12,000 across the UK.
It comes after the Mail reported how two people from Hartlepool appeared in court for neglect of their two children over the horrendous state of their house.
To report a case of neglect, call the NSPCC on 0808 8005000.
