A FOUR-MIDABLE team has been nominated for a Best of Health award once again.
And if the staff at the chemotherapy/haematology day unit at the University Hospital of Hartlepool lift the team of the year category again, it will be the fifth year in a row that they have won the honour.
But as far as chemotherapy specialist nurse Rosie Livingston is concerned, all the praise should go to the patients for continuing to show how much they love the team which helps people going through chemotherapy.
For the last four years, the unit has won the Best of Health team of the year trophy against strong opposition.
Rosie, who has worked in the chemo department for 13 years and been in the NHS since 1991, said: “We have fantastic patients and we helping them in the best way we can.
“Of course it would be nice to win this award again but there are so many fantastic people working in the health profession and every one of them deserves to win.”
The chemotherapy unit has once again attracted numerous nominations. One came from Albert Armstrong, 82, who life in previous years, penned a poem to show his appreciation for their work.
Part of it reads: “There are many teams just like them,
“In hospitals all over this land,
“It’s just that we attend this one often,
“And feel safe in their skilful hands.”
Another member of the public praised the “dignity and respect” with which the team treats their patients and a third commented: “They cared for me with patience, professionalism and tender, loving care.”
The team joins an impressive list of entries in this year’s Best of Health contest.
From doctors to midwives and GPs to carers, we have had worthy causes across the board but we want more. We’re sure there are more doctors and nurses who deserve to be in the running.
We also want to hear about the excellent work done by dentists, teams, pharmacists, optometrists, and midwives.
Anyone who has given long service to the health profession, or who is just starting out in the industry, can also be nominated.
It is so easy to give praise to people who really deserve it. Either fill in the form on this page, or visit the Hartlepool Mail website and follow the link on the home page.
