Officers have been deployed to help two Hartlepool families after a fatal accident in France.

John William Crompton, 31, Morgan Christian Lund, nine, and four-year-old Evie-Lily Crompton died in the collision on Sunday morning on the A39 near Beaurepaire-en-Bresse.

25-year-old Makayla Louise Lund, the children’s mother, and two-year-old Kyle Lucas Crompton were injured and taken to hospital.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "Makayla is in a stable condition today, while Kyle remains seriously ill.

"Specially trained officers are acting as Family Liaison Officers for both families. Cleveland Police is also assisting the French authorities with their inquiries into the collision as well as liaising with colleagues from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with all concerned at this very difficult time."
