Olympic golden girl Nicola Adams aims to make boxing history at Rio 2016

London 2012’s golden girl spearheads a powerful GB team in Turkey for the European Olympic qualifier.

Two Rio places are on offer in each of the three women’s categories in Sumsun, with the tournament scheduled to get under way this weekend.

Adams is a hot favourite at flyweight as the Yorkshire shows no signs of taking her foot off the gas.

She became the first women’s Olympic boxing champion in London four years when she beat world champion Ren Cancan.

And winning her second Olympic gold is the thing which drives her on in the sport at the age of 33.

“I want to make history,” she told SportMail. “We’ve never had a double gold medal winner in history in Britain – male or female.

“I’d love that piece of history.”

So are there any thoughts of seeking a life of fortune as well as fame?

“Not yet,” she smiled. “I need this medal.

“Hopefully, I can get gold in the World Championships in a few weeks which would give me the full set.

“Imagine if I could get the Olympic gold again? That would be unbelievable.

“Winning that gold in London is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my life.”

Adams is joined in Turkey by two female team-mates, former world champ Savannah Marshall at middleweight and Chanteller Cameron at lightweight.
