Majority of readers say Prince Harry 'should have consulted the Queen'

A large majority in our poll think Prince Harry and his wife Meghan should have consulted the Queen about their big decision.

It has been reported that the Sussexes did not speak with any royal on the matter. But should they have done?

We asked in our Facebook poll: “Do you think the Queen should have been consulted before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, announced they wished to step back as senior members of the Royal Family?

At the time of writing over 1,400 people had voted in our poll, with 74% saying yes, 26% saying no. Here are some reactions.

Isabel Moscrop thinks: “Out of respect they should have spoken to the Queen first. But more importantly, she is his gran. Not a nice thing to do.”

Angela Horton Herring said: “I think Harry hasn’t thought it through tbh. I think everyone would have supported him within his family, but he should’ve gone to the Queen to tell her of his intentions.”

Andy Quartly said: “Do you consult your nan, your mum, your dad, your brother, your sister before you do things in your life? I know I don’t, so why should he? He’s got a wife and a young child. If they want to live half in Canada, half in England, let them.”

Jessica Slater said: “Nobody is born to do anything. If they don’t want to continue to sponge off taxpayers anymore, then good for them.

“I think it’s something we should applaud. Branching away from that awful family could be great for them.”
