A CHINESE group has organised a programme of events to bring a slice of the orient to Hartlepool.

The excellent value courses have been arranged by Hartlepool Chinese Association and are giving people in the town, the chance to experience the Chinese culture and also learn new skills to boot.

And as well as adults, some of the sessions are available for children as well.

An accupressure course was starting today at Grange Road Resource Centre, in Tankerville Street, Hartlepool.

The sessions run for 10 weeks and gives people the chance to have accupressure performed on them, but also be taught how to perform the pain-relieving art.

The classes will be held from 1pm until 4pm at a cost of £3 per person and all ages are welcome.

The Hartlepool Chinese Association is also organising a Mandarin class for town residents to learn how to speak in the oriental tongue.

The foreign language course will last for 32 weeks and will also be held in the Grange Road Resource Centre.

The sessions are to start on Saturday, September 20, from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.

There will be a charge of about £1 per person per session and all ages are welcome with no previous experience required.

Chinese dancing classes for children are also being held by qualified instructors for 32 weeks at the Debbie Barrass dance school in Murray Street, Hartlepool.

Youngsters can have fun learning the rythymic oriental dance with the potential to put on a show at the annual Chinese New Year celebrations.

These sessions are being held from Saturday, September 27,from 2.45pm until 3.45pm at a cost of just £1 per child.
