The Hart Village Summer Fair will swing into action from 11am on Saturday on the village playfield behind the school.

Janet Ord, one of the event officials, urged people to get along and enjoy what promises to be a great event.

“We are hoping for 350 people or more especially if we get good weather,” she said.

The event has long had association with the village’s St Mary Magdalene Church and Janet said it was nice to know the event was continuing in conjunction with the church.

An event beacon will be lit at 11.15am before the Hart Primary School Choir performs.

Maypole dancing gets under way at 11.30am, and a performance by the Bubble Manbegins at 11.45am before a fancy dress parade starts at noon.

Children’s races, live music from the Hartlepool Ukelele Group, and medieval re-enactments are all planned later in the day.

There will be a dog show where categories will include the scruffiest canine and waggiest tail, and contests including welly hoying, a penalty shootout, scarecrow naming and a cake competition.

The fair lasts until 4pm and entry is £1 per adult of 50 pence per child.

It will also include attractions such as a bouncy castle, barbecue tent, coconut shy and afternoon tea.

The packed day of activity has been organised by the Hart Village Joint Events Group who described the fair as “a voluntary event by the people of Hart Village for the people around Hart Village.

“We will be providing a fun day for all the family and proceeds from the day will help towards Hart Village’s fabulous annual firework display in November.”

Organisers have urged people to get in touch if they would like to help at the fair, or if they would want to set up a stall.

They are also calling on people to come forward if they have gifts to donate to the tombola.
