Pair accused of causing pet suffering

A COUPLE accused of causing suffering to their pet dog will face a trial.

Janice and Paul McFarlane deny four counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal between February 1 and March 8.

Jamie, a West Highland white, is said to have been put down after a long illness.

The McFarlanes, of Warren Road, Hartlepool, are accused of failing to act after the dog developed an infected mass on its body, dry eye, infected ears and had lost weight.

The RSPCA brought the case to Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. The trial will take place on September 21.

Janice McFarlane, 49, and Paul McFarlane, 51, both have unconditional bail.
