TWO men have admitted to a vicious village attack that left a father-of-two critically injured.

Andrew Ford, 34, was attacked at his home in Second Street, Blackhall, on the morning of Tuesday, June 5.

He suffered a serious head injury and was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he was said to be fighting for his life.

Christopher Hilton, 21, from Brandlings Way, Blackhall, and Paul Bishop, 28, who is of no fixed address but is from Blackhall, have now admitted carrying out the fateful assault when they appeared at Durham Crown Court.

They were due to stand trial Tuesday charged with wounding with intent.

But they admitted a lesser charge of wounding, which was accepted by prosecutors.

A judge remanded the pair into custody until they are sentenced at the same court on November 12.

It was reported previously how police were called to Second Street, in Blackhall, shortly after 12.30am on Tuesday, June 5, following reports of a disturbance.

When officers arrived they found the dad of two young children, a boy and girl, lying on the living room floor inside his house, unconscious and with blood coming from his mouth.

Police had appealed for information about the assault.
