Pensioner fighting for life after boat fire at Hartlepool Marina

A Hartlepool man is fighting for his life in hospital following a boat fire in the town's marina.'¨Emergency crews were scrambled to a boat yard at the site at 5.30pm on Monday after reports of the blaze emerged.

A 70-year-old man was rescued from the boat and was flown by the Great North Air Ambulance to the RVI in Newcastle where he remains in a critical condition.

Cleveland Police have confirmed that the man lives in Hartlepool.

A spokeswoman for the force also said that investigations by officers have found that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire.

Pictures taken at the scene showed the casualty being carried into the Great North Air Ambulance helicopter before being flown to the RVI for treatment.

Firefighters from Stranton and Stockton stations were then seen damping down the boat, which was not badly damaged in the fire.

No-one else was injured in the incident.
