Pensioner raised alarm by banging on walls after thug forced his way into her Hartlepool home

A would-be thief pushed his way into a 77-year-old woman's home as he tried to steal her property.

The attempted burglary happened in Lansdowne Road in Hartlepool yesterday at 5:30pm.

Police say the victim heard a knock at the door and when she answered, a man forced his way inside and tried to steal items.

The victim managed to bang on the walls of the house to alert the neighbours and the suspect made off from the scene and headed towards Elwick Road.

The suspect is described as white, 5 ft 7in tall, of slim build and he was wearing dark clothing.

The victim was uninjured.
