13 pictures of annual bombardment of Hartlepool remembrance service

People of all ages turned out on a cold December morning to remember the victims of the Bombardment of Hartlepool on its 105th anniversary.

A poignant annual ceremony was held on the Headland at the same time as shells rained down on the town on December 16 in 1914, early in the First Wold War killing 130 people and injuring many more.

The service, organised by the Heugh Battery Museum included a short parade to Redheugh Gardens war memorial with Hartlepool air cadets, veterans, ex-service associations and members of the community taking part.

Here are a selection of photographs of the event captured by the Mail’s Stuart Norton.
