Details revealed for Durham City Run Festival 2020: How to enter the 5k race and 10k race

The 2020 line-up is yet to be revealed but will include a wide range of activities for anyone who has an interest in running.

The Durham City Run Festival is being organised by Events of the North, who have partnered with Durham University for this years event. In 2019, thousands of people of all ages took part in the festival, which took over the city centre and the Gala Theatre.

When is the Durham City Run Festival?

The festival will return this year for a full programme of events that will extend over a three day period at the university’s Sports and Wellbeing Park, from Thursday, July 16 to Saturday, July 18.

What will the 2020 line-up look like?

The 2020 line-up is yet to be revealed but will include a wide range of activities for anyone who has an interest in running, including a series of themed runs for all ages and abilities.

The Prince Bishop’s Durham City 5K and 10K races return, as well as Paula’s Families on Track powered by Atom Bank and the Run Like A Legend timed mile.

The popular history themed run from 2019 is set to return as well, lead by author Terry Deary who will give signed copies of his latest Horrible Histories book ‘All at Sea’ to every child who takes part.

How to enter the The Prince Bishop’s Durham City 5K and 10K races

Thursday, July 16 race registration is now open and entry includes and official technical t-shirt, finisher's medal and goody bag as well as on course drinks – Register here.

How to enter Paula’s Families on Track 10K

Each team must consist of three to five members, one team member must be over 18 and one under 16, team captain must be over 18, mimimum age to take part is four years-old, the race starts at 10am at Durham Racecourse on Saturday, July 18, and entry cost is £40 per team – Register here.

How to enter Run Like A Legend

On Friday, July 17 run a one mile course along the banks of the River Wear, entry fee is £7 per person and includes an official technical t-shirt and finisher's medal, start times are 20 minutes slots from 10.40am to 2.40pm and the starting and finishing line are outside the boathouse – Register here.

What charity will the Durham City Run Festival be supporting this year?

Organisers have confirmed that the official charity partner for 2020 is local charity St. Cuthbert’s Hospice, which has been serving the community of Durham since 1988.

The public will be encouraged to raise funds for St. Cuthbert’s in the 10K and 5K races alongside the charity who will have it’s own team of runners in both events.

What should be expected this year?

Durham City Run Festival founder Steve Cram said: “The first Durham City Run Festival was a wonderful celebration of running and it was really exciting to see our vision come to life in and around the city.

“Working with Durham County Council, we have even bigger plans for 2020 and we’re really pleased that Durham University is going to be our lead partner. The Sports and Wellbeing Park is a brilliant venue and we plan to make great use of it – watch this space!“In 2019, the themed runs were a highlight of the festival, providing really accessible opportunities to participate to so many people.

“Unsurprisingly, the history runs led by Terry Deary were extremely popular, so we’re horribly delighted that Terry is going to join us again in 2020.”
