Investigation launched after man dies at Hartlepool recycling plant

An investigation is under way after a man died at a Hartlepool recycling plant.

Cleveland Police were called to the Ward Recycling site in Windermere Road this morning, Thursday, January 30.

The victim has not been named.

A Cleveland Police statement this afternoon confirmed a joint investigation was under way: “Police received a report of an incident at Ward Recycling on Windermere Road, Hartlepool, just after 8:30am today.

“Sadly, a 35-year-old man suffered serious injuries and he died at the scene,” it said.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident and a joint investigation will take place with the Health and Safety Executive.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said: “HSE was contacted by Cleveland Police this morning regarding an incident at Ward Recycling and are liaising with them at this stage.

“HSE inspectors are attending site today.”
