A spokesperson said: “Following the incredible demand we’ve seen with our Nightflix drive-in cinema events, we wanted to continue bringing this experience to a wider audience, which has been well received so far by the community at Hartlepool after a long year of lockdown.

“We want to treat them with their favourite films, drinks, and delicious food in a safe environment.

“With the protective measures we have put in place, we are sure everyone will be able to enjoy their evening out with us from the safety of their own vehicle.”

It comes after last month a licensing application was submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council for the site, which was previously a fenced off hardstanding car park.

The proposals were submitted by OzSeeker, trading as Nightflix, to gain permission to display films at the site from 9am until 2am seven days a week.

The licensing application also allows the site to offer refreshments until 2am although it is not allowed to serve alcohol.

The application stated several steps will be taken to ensure the proposals would meet the licensing objectives, keeping people safe and preventing nuisance.

It said: “The licence holder must ensure that a reasonable number of staff regularly patrol the premises to supervise the orderly conduct of patrons.

“Immediately after the end of each screening and prior to the commencement of another screening litter pickers shall take all reasonable efforts to remove all litter inside the event site and any external litter found outside the immediate vicinity of the site boundary.”

To date Nightflix has six drive-in cinema sites across the country with “more locations coming soon”.
