Pantomime on ice returns to Billingham Forum Ice Arena with The Wizard of Oz

It is almost time to get your skates on to see a pantomime with a difference – it takes place entirely on ice.

Dozens of young skaters from Billingham Ice Skating Club will take to the ice for their 46th annual panto The Wizard of Oz.

It is on at Billingham Forum’s Ice Arena from Saturday, December 14, to Tuesday, December 17.

The show has 62 skaters, including those from Hartlepool, and range from ages five to 17.

Emma Freeman, of Billingham Ice Skating Club Committee, said: “The show could not be possible without the work of the director/writer and head choreographer Stuart Wilson a Tees Active ice skating coach who has been involved with the panto from the 1970s.

“Months of planning goes into the show. We are extremely grateful to the volunteers who help design and put the costumes together, behind the scenes carrying out stage structures and props to the lighting, sound and music and voice overs.

“We also have additional choreography volunteers who put together routines and work with the cast on the rink.

“We look for to providing an exciting, enjoyable show.”

Tickets are £9.75 for adults and £6.75 for children and seniors. Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

There also the chance to of a free 45-minute skate after each performance subject to availability.

Emma also extended the club’s thanks to Tees Active staff who offer help and support all year round in the planning of the show, and to the commitment of the skaters and their parents and carers.
