A person who died on a Teesside railway line today is believed to be a missing 16 year-old boy.

A body was found on the line near Stockton early this morning, Thursday, January 23.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, police say it is understood to be that of 16-year-old Jake Wake, from the town, who was reported missing to Cleveland Police yesterday.

Jake’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers while they come to terms with the news.

Detective Inspector Granville Sellers from British Transport Police, said: “Jake’s family are utterly heartbroken by this upsetting news and we are doing everything we can to support them at this very difficult time.

“I know all of his family are desperately seeking answers and we are continuing our work to understand exactly how he came to be on the tracks.”
