1. Tall story
The decade opened with hundreds of thousands of people descending on Hartlepool for the four-day Tall Ships' Races in August 2010.
2. Beach rescue
These Hartlepool RNLI volunteer members received awards and nationwide acclaim after dramatically rescuing 17-year-old Neil Robson after he became trapped by a combination of sand and incoming water at Seaton Carew in October 2011.
3. Golden moment
Torchbearer Jamie Poole on board HMS Trincomalee, berthed at Hartlepool Marina, as he passes through the town in June 2012 with the Olympic torch prior to the 2012 London Games.

4. Down she comes
Hartlepool's landmark Steetley Chimney, visible across town and from the nearby railway line, is finally demolished in July 2012.
