Pervert told to expect prison term

A PERVERT has been warned to expect a prison sentence after he confessed to grooming two underage girls for sex.

Anthony Lauder, 28, went on to have sexual activity with one of his victims after grooming her and persuading her to meet up with him.

He also unsuccessfully tried to meet up with another young girl after grooming her.

Lauder pleaded guilty to a series of sex offences when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court.

He had been expected to stand trial after previously denying the offences.

Lauder admitted meeting a child following sexual grooming.

He also confessed to two counts of sexual activity with the same child.

And he admitted attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming of a second girl, also under 16.

Lauder replied “guilty your honour” to each of the charges that were put to him.

Stephen Constantine, mitigating, asked for a background report to be prepared on Lauder before he is sentenced.

Judge Peter Armstrong said: “I will adjourn sentence until April 20. The reason for that is so a pre-sentence report can be prepared upon you.

“The likelihood is to be a custodial sentence but any mitigating issues can be addressed in the report.”

Lauder, of Bruce Crescent, West View, Hartlepool, was further remanded in custody.

According to the The Sentencing Council for England and Wales, meeting a child following sexual grooming carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years.

Sexual activity with a child can attract up to 14 years in prison.
