Peterlee firm brings in meditation sessions for workers
A company is encouraging acupuncture and meditation to tell workers that mental wellbeing is really important.
Bosses at ZF TRW, in Peterlee, say caring for the mind is vital. Staff worked with the charity MIND and produced a booklet for all employees.
Mental health awareness training sessions were held for supervisors and managers, while acupuncture, mindfulness and meditation sessions were available for all staff.
ZF TRW’s HR manager Lisa Walton said: “Caring for the mind is as important as caring for the body, one cannot be healthy without the other.
“We take the health and wellbeing of our employees very seriously.”
John Scott, a surface mount operator, enjoyed the acupuncture and meditation sessions.
He said: “It was very relaxing, and taught us all a lot I think. It’s helped us to be a lot calmer, and if you’re in a stressful situation we now are better equipped to dealing with that.”
Plant manager Robin Finley said: “We are fully committed to making changes to improve health, safety, and well-being and are working towards an incident and injury-free workplace.
“We will also strive to achieve a healthy, motivated workforce, in a way that brings the benefits of better health to all staff, their families, and the community.”
