Garage owner, Richy Martin, was so impressed with the 19-year-old’s attitude and ability that he has offered him an apprenticeship, which he will start in a few weeks’ time.

Delighted Jamie said: “I was over the moon to be offered the apprenticeship because this is what I want to do so it’s a really good opportunity for me.

“I was nervous at first but I’m fine now, Richy helped me to fit in really well. It’s great.”

Richy added: “Jamie’s got four week’s left on his college course and on the work placement before he starts full-time as an apprentice mechanic.

“We had another apprentice who is just about to come out of his time and he’s a really good mechanic. So I rang the college where we got him from, and asked for another just like him.

“They sent us Jamie and he’s really impressed us.

“I’m really pleased with his progress and I think he’ll do well.”

Jami is currently studying an NVQ in motor vehicle maintenance at Durham New College.
