Police appeal after smash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a three-vehicle smash.

A 78-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after the crash in Marsh House Avenue, in Billingham, at the junction with the Seal Sands Road junction at around 10.40am on Friday.

The accident involved a red Kia Picanto, a blue Fiat Punto and a stationary heavy goods vehicle.

The pensioner, who was driving the Picanto and was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, suffered broken ribs, a fractured pelvis and lumbar spine.

Police are now asking for anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.
