Police have renewed an appeal for help in tracking down a man who has gone on the run after being convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child.

Twenty-year-old Paul Nicholson, from Gateshead, was convicted by a jury at Newcastle Crown court yesterday, but failed to appear. He is due to be sentenced on Thursday.

Police are appealing for anyone who has seen him, or knows where he might be, to contact police as soon as possible.

Chief Inspector Steve Ammari said: "Paul Nicholson was not present at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday and there is a warrant out for his arrest. The last confirmed sighting we have of him is from December 8 and we want to hear from anyone who has seen or heard from his since that date to contact us as soon as possible.

"Because of the circumstances surrounding Nicholson's disappearance then we are keen to locate him as soon as possible and I'd urge anyone with any information that could help us locate him to get in touch."

Anyone with information about where Paul Nicholson is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.
