Police are investigating a suspected arson to the rear of a popular pet store.

The incident occurred at the Pets at Home store in Teesside Park at 5pm on Sunday, June 24.

The fire quickly spread to the side of the building where both stock and livestock were stored, causing significant damage to the side of the building.

Thankfully no livestock was injured, but the blaze also destroyed a nearby storage unit.

Cleveland Police believe a group of youths were around at the time of the incident and would like to speak to them to see if they can assist with inquiries.

The force is also appealing for witnesses to help with their investigation.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "It is believed a small group of youths were around at the time of the incident, two black males and three white males - two of which were on pedal bikes - and officers would like to speak to these individuals as they may be able to assist with inquiries.

"Anyone who was around at the time of the fire is asked to contact PC Kieran Okey from Cleveland Police on 101 quoting event number 113889.
