Police release man arrested on suspicion of raping a Hartlepool woman in her home.
A man arrested by police in connection with the rape of a Hartlepool woman in her own home has been released on investigation.
The 54-year-old Stockton man was quizzed by detectives in connection with the suspected sex attack at a house in the Chester Road area of the town.
The incident is said to have taken place on Saturday, November 18, between 2pm and 2.30pm.
Officers say a woman was approached by what appeared to be a "workman" as she returned to her home. He told her the roof of her house was in need of repair as some of the tiles were loose.
She then let the man into her property and said she was then attacked by him.
Cleveland Police have stressed that attacks of this nature are very rare but are warning people to be extra vigilant with doorstep callers and to ensure they don’t let strangers into their home without ensuring they are confident their visit is legitimate.
A force spokeswoman said the man arrested has been released and investigations are still continuing.
