HARTLEPOOL United’s season ticket offer received a timely boost yesterday when all of the club’s players snapped up a seat for the new season.
Pools’ players returned to training last week and while they are fully focused on preparing for the new campaign they all decided to put their hands in their pockets to help the club reach the magic 4,000 target which will see fans pay just £100 for their season ticket.
The current total of tickets sold is edging towards the 3,000 mark, with the deadline looming next Friday.
Skipper Sam Collins revealed the players have initially bought 30 season tickets for themselves. But this number could rise further with several players thinking of buying more than one.
“We wanted to do what we can to try and help the fans out,” Collins said.
“Obviously we all know about the current economic climate and we knew that the chairman and Russ Green had come up with this fantastic offer so we wanted to play our part.
“All the players get an allowance of tickets but there are always certain games where you perhaps need a few more for family and friends so this was a perfect opportunity for us and I’m delighted all the lads agreed to pitch in.
“It’s brilliant what the club have done and I know Mick Wadsworth, Russ, and the chairman Ken Hodcroft have all bought tickets so everyone pulling together on this can only generate an even better spirit within the club.
“I’ve said before that whenever I played here with Port Vale that the atmosphere was always fantastic so the more fans we can get, the more it’s going to help us in the new season.”
The ticket office at Victoria Park is open from 10am-4pm on Monday and Friday. But opening hours have been extended in the lead up to the deadline.
The office will be open from 10am-6pm on Thursday, July 7, and Thursday, July 14, as well as on Saturday, July 9, from 9am-1pm.
Tickets can also be bought over the telephone by calling (01429) 272584.
