KEEN golfers still have time to put their names down for a charity event alongside Hartlepool United legend Joe Allon.
The former fans’ favourite is backing a campaign to keep the popular youth club open at the Belle Vue Community Sports and Youth Centre, in Kendal Road.
It is the second event that he has supported as he was guest of honour at An Audience with Joe Allon event at the weekend.
The charity golf day takes place at Hartlepool Golf Club, on Thursday, July 28.
The youth club has struggled for funding since the start of the year and its organisers were planning to call it a day.
But workers and residents pulled together to raise £4,000 to safeguard its survival for at least six months.
Trevor Robinson, the club’s youth project co-ordinator, said: “Joe is a legend. His involvement highlights how important the club is to the community.
“He’s been really supportive to our fundraising campaign.”
Joe, 45, who scored 79 goals in 194 appearances during two spells with Pools, will tee off at the golf day which will be followed by a presentation night with a two-course meal.
The youth club provides activities throughout the week for around 250 young people, aged five to 19.
The golf day costs £40 per person or £140 for a group of four.
